I'm a foreign student ending his OPT very soon. I don't have a H-1B visa. I'm also heavy in debt from from loans (mostly from credit card companies) to pay college (about $40,000) and I owe the school about $20,000 in unpaid tuitions. I was affected the Asian economic crisis, hence the large debt. A collection agency hired by my college has sent me a letter of a lawsuit againts me. How can I solve the debt problem? Can I just file for bankcruptcy and everything will go away? Can I leave the country with so much debt and a pending lawsuit?
