Not bad

It's better than 22 months or 2 years, if they really mean it.

Waiting Second FP notice

I hope they stick to these numbers ..

It all seems like a facade ... cuz if they are really serious about the 580 - 610 day turnaround time , we should see Jan approvals pretty soon !!

I would not count on it being done in 610 days, they increased it to cover their butt.
The main delay is in FBI Name check. In 2002 FBI processed 3.2 million name checks, and in 2003 they are estimationg around 9 million name checks (name check is not only done by INS, but by 70 different agencies all over the world), so this will add a tremendous backlog to the FBI name check, since FBI only hired 25 more people. This back log will put a hold on 485 processings to.
If FBI does get back with a name check inquiry within 120 days (that is how much they estimated 3 years ago), then there would have been no delays in the first place
but now you can do the math. I am guessing that 610 will be changed to 650 in the near future.
God bless us!

No, name check is completely different than finger print
finger print is just they search their DB for finger print matches, which doesn't take a long time.
Name check is when they search their and other centralised database for matches on your name and date of birth, they they review all the records. They do a "sound like" name match so if your name is joseph, then they will also try to match joe, jossie, and so on, and al close proximity date of birth matches, ofcourse lot of records will be found, then they will try to verify the records manually, if the records are in the database then they can verify it quickly, but lot of times they are not in the db, so they have to retrieve the paper copy, which can take forever and then make a decison. If there is a very close match (they call it a hit), then lot more procedures are followed
now you can imaging with 9 million requests and only 125 employess working on it, how much time it will take!

GUJU,
I got RFE and replied on 06/10/03. Does it mean FBI name check enquiry is completed?????

Yeah, that 610 days is not enough. It is just to cover their butt. Hopefully they won't change it 710 days after 6 months.

Hi ChiGC00
Well it depends on what RFE you got for, usually name check is the last thing in the 485 proceess (so i have heard)
What was your RFE for?
