One year break in US stay

I have been traveling in & out of US for last 5 years.
Earlier i came to US on my H1 and stayed for almost 10 months. After that i had a break of more that 1 year and was in India.
I came back here on a L1 and stayed for almost 1 year after this i went to India for 1 month and came back on a new H1 . Duration of my stay in US on this new H1 is almost 1.5 years and now i have a continuous stay.

I heard that if a person stays out of US for more than 12 months then his status changes and his clock in US starts from zero again. So that he can stay here for another 6 years.
Is my understanding correct.
Please help!

if after L1 it was less than a year then the L1 stay also counts towards H1 six years. the first h1 stay will not count as that was more than a year
