One-way plane ticket out of US, big deal?

Planning a trip to see my relatives in France. I know that is advised to use round-trip tickets with the ending flight on the U.S. side. But:

- Is it a big deal if I purchase a one-way plane ticket?
- Would this come up at the time of citizenship interview?

I am definitely planning to be away for less than 6 months (maybe like 3 only).

No. Americans don't care if you leave for wherever...however.....They have zero interest in making sure that permanent residents return on time. In any case, you won't be seeing any immigration officials before leaving.

Only if you return after 6 months.

The only problem that you might have is with the airline (unless you are a French citizen) which might insist that you buy a return ticket and might force you to buy an over priced ticket on the spot. Airlines typically dislike folks traveling on one way tickets but you can get away with saying that I have not finalized my return plans yet or have a flight reservation copy handy.

Thank you del0175. I believe that you are right. And I am French citizen which is good then.

The only thing of concern is a possibility that immigration officer may understand such behavior as "she left U.S. without strong intention of coming back" ... and therefore is not eligible for keeping GC or citizenship.

I just hope that such scenario won't happen and that no one has ever had any problem with one way tickets.

One-way tickets out of the US won't cause a problem with US immigration; you don't have to go through immigration when leaving the US. The thing to avoid is round-trip tickets that end outside the US.

Nope

Nope buying one way ticket will not give you any problem but make sure not to spend all your money there or else you will be broke and wont be able to buy another ticket and thats gonna be your problem :D:D...You should just buy roundtrip ticket its cheaper and they allow you to choose the date when you coming back...
