Hi,
First and foremost thank you KD, Raju, Alren and all other seniors (short of memory can't remember the names) for all your help and maintaining this forum with your expertise and over and above all thankful to RAJIV KHANNA for operating this forum.

I started my research in this forum with a 0% knowledge about CP and all I have today is just only because of this forum. It was like everything is arranged in a plate all I need to do is to grab and eat it and I believe that's what I did it. Thanks once again to all the seniors who helped me.

Well my experience in the whole process was nothing exciting but the feeling after getting the approval was really great (full of laddooooooos).

Travel to interview:

I landed in Mumbai on 18th early moring at 3.30 AM and took a paid cab to Nepeansea Rd. from the airport it costed me Rs 300/- for Non-AC (wanted to have fresh smell of mumbai after the rain)

Checked in the Hotel Regency, took a delux room as I had wife and kid. It was not pretty big enough but good enough for three. It costed me RS 2650/- per night including buffet breakfast.

Medicals:
On 19th morning I had medical appointment at Breach Candy hospital at 7.30, was expecting less crowd but there were many people ahead of me and also some joined behind me.

Intially they gave some pink form with some carbon copies behind it to fill up the Biographic data and later they called in a number to review and submit it with a payment of RS 1800/- per head.

Blood was collected in one room and X-Ray was taken in another room and after that they gave a break of 1 hour.

Had some break fast in some reasturant which was few yards from Breach
Candy towards mahalaxmi temple.

After the break height and weight was taken. Weight really surprised me as it grew beyond expectation.

Wife was asked to stay in the same room and I was asked to go the main building for the physical check up.

I waited for 2 and half hour to get my number called and finally I was asked to sit in front of Doctor. He asked few questions like Do I have Diabetes, any operations in the past or injury, High BP and he was planning to check my heart beat mean time his cell phone rang so he gave up that part and as I mentioned I didn't have any vacination records he gave me one MMR shot which was already kept on his table. and later was asked to pay Rs 120/- for the vacination (Vac. fee Rs 70 and Doc fee Rs 50) and asked to go for physical. There was another Doctor sitting inside who asked for all clothes down and checked each and every part and tried to chat in a very cool manner and said fine go.

Was asked to collect the records at 3.00 PM the same day. Waited for wife as ladies Q was taking time. They also went through the same process but only difference it was done by a lady doctor.

Collected reports by 3.30 PM after relaxing and taking lunch at the hotel and as I reached little late as I though they may not be ready but I found I was almost one of the last few person left to collect the report as other have already collected it.

On 20th
Had enough time for getting the DD and the photos. Had good breakfast at the hotel and left for photos and DD. Went to My own Photo studio and gave him the new requirement of the Immigration photos and he asked for RS350/- per head as it was for same day delievery. Finished the photo sessiona and walked to near by Standard Charted bank and the rep told me their rules like the DD cost Rs 200 per DD and if by any chance if it need to be cancelled then it may cost RS 250 as the cancellation fee. So she suggested if have enough time then collect it from Bank of India which was very adajacent from the consulate who charge less and no problem with the reissue of DD in case if needed. It was located in the ground floor of the Skytower building one. Filled the form with lot of mistake and I was corrected and I refilled the form, at the cash counter I was rejected as I didn't have RS and had Dollars, so they asked me to go STD.Chart to get the DD as they may accept the Dollars. Went back to S-C and they also rejected me. Came back to BOI as the DD was already ready only cash problem so asked her advice so some how she found out that there is Trade wings who can exchange Dollars to Rupees in the same road to temple Mahalaxmi. Went there got the Dollars exchanged and came back to BOI and took the DD's as we were two applicants. It costed Rs150 each. Took the draft each RS15410/- (This is the only part which I didn't understand through out my readings why they have to mention the Dollar amount and the exchange rate when any ways they need DD for RS 15410)

Interview Day 21st July.

Reached the consulate at 7.30 a big Q was there, security asked to join the line as they are going to send one after the other. One young girl came checking and sending one after the other inside the consulate. Ladies and Gents seperate line for security check up. Me and my wife didn't carry any other things than two folders one with my documents and the other copies from the lawyer and wife had her original certificates and copies in her folder.
We were asked to sit on the chairs placed next to wall so we were cornered. Waited till 11.00 AM to be called for submitting the documents. The Indian lady was coool and looked like she was interested in working. She asked the following docs:

DS-230 part I and II (She scratched the American address and asked to write the Indian address at the Q #13 Present address in DS-230 part I)

Gave a Paper to read and sign I just had a glance and it was a statement that we will join the empolyer or inform INS etc etc. I just signed it and gave it back.

Employer letter original. (She just collected she didn't even read it what was stated).

PCC original

Birth Certificate Original, she verified the affidavits and took one copy of each (2 aff. and one NAC).

Marriage certificate original verified with the copies and took two copies and gave back the original

Medicals report for both of them just took the small packet which contain our report and didn't even bother for the X-rays.

Asked for I-134.

As my documents were getting collected wife was asked to pay the DD's

Wife was asked for DS-230 Part I and II
Birth Certificate (verified original and took one copy)

Immigration photos were take three each and passport photos were not taken as the new requriement was going to start from 22nd july.

Asked to sign one photo each vertical to the face I mean parallel to the face.

That's all she asked us to sit back and we will be called shortly.

After half hour exactly we were called back one Indian and American lady were standing and saw American pressing one rubber stamp on my visa.(Cancelling the exisiting visa) and also my wife's visa. Looks like she was in hurry or may be her nature every question was fast.

As soon as we entered in the window cabin she gave me the receipt of money we paid and asked to show it while collecting the visa. " Full Thanda hogaya"

Amer. Both of them Raise your right hands and say all the information provided and will say is true and then sign the paper.

We both did that part.

All questions were asked to me only.

Amer: So what is your job role
Me: Analysis, design.......

Amer: Where do I do that ? (some thing similar )
Me : For application programs, app. ehancements and break fixes.

Amer: Which programming languages I deal with ?
Me: Pro. lang A, B , C and MS tools.

Amer: What is the name of your emplyer ?
Me: XYZ

Amer: Is he your family member ?
Me: No.

Amer: Now you can go and one of you come back and collect your visa at 3.30 from the information window.
Me: Thank you mam.

Came out of the window cabin with full of laddoooooos in my heart.

My wife asked me why she was not asked any questions I replied just because she didn't like her. That's it "Bahar pit gaya".

Went to Dadar did some shopping and came back by 4.00 PM and people were standing in a line for the window to open and finally it was opened and every one, one after the other started collecting seperate packet for the each individual with a colorful paper with a heading "IMMIGRANT VISA FOR THE ALIEN"

P O E

Started back on 25th morning from Bombay and reached at 4.30 in Los angeles, CA. The visa packet was shown at number of place at mumbai airport first while getting the Boarding pass, as my visa was cancelled, then at immigration counter then at the security check before entering the waiting hall before boarding the plane.

At LA, asked one uniformed rep where should I stand she asked me to join the line at number 17 imm. booth. Joined them waited for my turn, the officer took my packet, took one thick form palced under a slot asked to sign on both the sides of the form and then took right index finger print. He guided my finger for the prints. Asked to collect the luggage and wait for my turn to be called, waited for half hour and then he did some paper work and handed over the passort with I-551 one year temporary stamp and he explained me about the stamp validity and proof of Permanent Residency. That's it he asked me to go and again my heart was filled with laddoooooooos.

Came out happily.

Thanks for reading my experience. Sorry for long posting.

Happen to See Anupham Kher at the US Consulate in Mumbai, he was planning to get Immigrant visa but unfortunately he got Visitor visa (just kidding) but he did come, I don't know what visa he was trying but he was very hesistant to sit on the chairs, he was walking to and fro and to my surprise no body bothered to talk to him.

Thank you so much for your info and help. Yeah actually I liked the hotel and the food and the staff was also good but to get some things done in the room especially change of bedsheets and cleaning I have to call them couple of times. Rest everything was fine.

Waiting to have the plastic card.

First of all, my heartiest congratulations and welcome back to US. It is always lovely is'nt it, the ...fresh smell ...
Medicals:
It seems that Hinduja is much better to do the medicals. All the fees seems to be included (including MMR). Did not have to wait a whole lot long for anything and had clear long 4 hr. break in between. No secondary exam (etc.)
So she suggested if have enough time then collect it from Bank of India
So nice of her to think the best of the customers. Sorry for your troubles with the DD.
One young girl came checking and sending one after the other inside the consulate.
Was it the short wheatish girl with a tattoo around her arm (?).
Employer letter original. (She just collected she didn't even read it what was stated).
...
That's what I have noticed, they do not seem to accurately verify the details
My wife asked me why she was not asked any questions I replied just because she didn't like her. That's it "Bahar pit gaya".

BAD BAD MOVE! DUDE!
Happen to See Anupham Kher at the US Consulate in Mumbai,
Come to think of it, Had totally forgot about this funny thing. It seems that Asha Bhonsle was applying for visa through her agent. There was an announcement for Lata Mangeshkar, So the agent comes to the window and says it's for Asha not Lata ...

{ She was around 5.3" to 5.4 " I don't call as short but she was whitish on the fairer side and her arms were covered with sleeves so couldn't notice the tattoo }

BAD BAD MOVE! DUDE!

{Actually did many bad moves, couldn't stop it man...}

Congrats vm1214

Hey vm,
Congratulations on your successful approval! I have a few questions reg. the hotel you stayed in (Hotel Regency). How far is it from the consulate? and did you make any prior booking before arriving. If so, how? I am not looking for a 5 start hotel room but is it at least clean and decent? Your response is greatly appreciated.
Thx.

Mansu,
Sorry for this late reply, I got your PM also but I thought if I can post here then it will help others too. Actually I was tied up in the office since morning so could not spend time to reply you.

Well, YES I did booking but to my knowledge you don't have to do it but as usual it is better to book.

Regency Hotel
73 Nepean Sea Road,
Mumbai 400006
Ph: 23699696/ 56571234/ 23697700
Fax: 56571200

Actually the rooms are good, clean and the service is also good. food is also good in taste, salt/pepper need to be added by youself it will be provided.
Western style bathroom, with bathtub. Bathroom is big enough than normally compared to motel 6 and it is all marble floor.

Two types of room are available std and delux. STd for singel person cost RS 2100 and two persons it cost RS 2450 and the delux is RS 2650/- and it is little bigger than std room. The rooms are big but not very big, comfortable to move in.

The taxi fare from the hotel to consulate/ breach candy is RS 20 to RS 25 depending on the traffic. To other place like VT station it will RS 65 and Dadar it will cost RS 100 to 110 /-

I checked other hotels near by like Hotel Kemps corner in Kemps corner I will not prefer it even though it cost Rs 1650 for two persons. It is like 4 studios next to each other on same floor, small narrow staircase and old looking lift. The room is so cozy and dark we can't breath in, not bath tub and the floor is also mosiac tiles.

The other hotel I saw was Shalimar, that was excellent, Double room cost @ RS 5000 and suite cost RS 6500 but it is more spacious than Regency and suite has a living room with sofa set, dining table and off course TV and a seperate bedroom with a bathroom attached. Very nice.

Another senior member - Alren stayed in Hotel Pritam at Dadar and the cost was @ RS 2500/- you can ask him the details.

Hope this information helps to make your decision.

Thanks and all the best.

Congratulations !!! Finally we all are getting to feel that post GC life.

BTW, you asked about my wife's preganany in other thread. Her due date is around end of Nov. Will keep you all posted about that development.

Enjoy !!!

Thanks Victor, Post GC life initially is feeling good I don't know what happens later....

I thought your wife will deliver the baby in India and you all three are coming back, but this idea doesn't make any sense.

Hope you will be in touch with this forum till nov\dec.

thanks

This is only if you have to do medicals at Hinduja. Dadar is quite a distance away from the US consulate area. It will cost about Rs. 150-200 by cab and a good half hour in no traffic.
