One More OCI for Minor Question

Hi,

My son was an Indian national before becoming US citizen. Since we (myself and my spouse) both became US citizens, my son got US passport without going through USCIS. Can someone please let me know is it ok to apply for OCI with just US passport. Will Travisa insist for Citizenship certificate for him which is 6 months long procedure. I am sure the answer must be here in the forum somewhere. I couldn't find it. Appreciate your help.

I just went through this with Travisa. My daughter was born in India, but as a US citizen. She was never an Indian citizen. However, Travisa asked for her naturalization certificate. When I explained the case, they said ok, send a copy of her birth registration issued by the consulate. In your case, I think you will have to provide them with the certificate. Apparently, for Travisa and the Indian embassy, having a US passport is not proof that you are a US citizen! They have tougher rules than even Uncle Sam!
