Dear friends,

I thought I would share this little story of joy with you. As most of you might remember (see signature), I became a U.S. citizen on Friday of last week.

Today, I got a letter from DHS, post marked and sent from the Washington, D.C. DO in Fairfax, VA. The letter is dated 9/26/06. Four days past naturalization ceremony, I may add ;-).

The letter reads:

"On 02/10/2006 you, or the designated representative shown below, contacted us about your case." (Then it lists my A number, receipt number, case type etc).

It continues:

"The status of this request is:

Your application is still pending. If you would like to speak to an officer please go to our website to make a INFO Pass Appointment"

Okay, let us look past the mistakes in grammar in the letter they sent. Let us also look past the mistake on the oath invitation letter (those who have it, look at it where it talks about the documents to bring to the oath). There it reads "You need to being the following documents" instead of "You need to bring the following documents". Well, the form is from 1992, so sure nobody caught that in 14 years...let alone caught it before it went to the OMB to print ;-).

The letter came from the Fairfax Office, WHERE I TOOK THE OATH last week and COMPLETED my application. Is not it great how they do not even update their own records???? When I was handed the oath letter during an InfoPass appointment on September 18th, I saw a big red "APPROVED" stamp on my N-400. One would figure that they update things accordingly. Hm, apparently not.

So we all should not be surprised that A files get lost, name checks are pending and other 'fun' things...gotta love it.

Cheers!

Nice Story

Nice Story...and congrats on completing the journey!

I guess governments anywhere are just the same. The way I look at it is....the ineptitude of the government is directly proportional to the size of the country :p

Cheers and Njoy the new freedom.

On the Bright side, it's one institution you'll probably never to deal with again.

Dear LegalAlien99

You should change your user-name now, since you are no longer an alien in this country!

You are now a citizen of US, and you have a say about how the government is doing. I suggest you to excercise your right, and bring this story to a congressman, or to public, so that someone will notice it and make improvement. No change in 14 years, because everyone choose to be quiete. The goverment will not improve without a driving force. Now you are part of that driving force!

Anyway, congratulations my friend! And don't leave too soon...

Hi buddy,

Thanks for your kind words. Sure, I will stick around the forum. Hm, I would change my user name if I could find out how to do it without going through the entire registration process again. Any pointers?

Cheers!
