on-line status never changed

My wife's and my employment-based 485 cases were transferred from Vermont center to the local INS office in March 2002. We went to interview and got our passports stamped in July. Our attorney told us after the interview that the cards should be ready in a year.

I just found out the URL for INS on-line status checking. But the weird thing is both of our cases are still waiting for interviews according the the status:

/*
Receipt Number: EACxxxxxxxxxx

Application Type: I485, APPLICATION TO ADJUST TO PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS

Current Status:

On March xx, 2002, we transferred your I485 APPLICATION TO ADJUST TO PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS to another INS office for them to schedule and conduct your interview. Scheduling can take several months. That office will notify you when they schedule your interview or take other action on your case.

Should I be worried? Anyone has been in the same boat?

Thank you.

KC_GC,

Why should you be worried? You have already had your interview and have received your I-551 residency permit.

Understandably, the INS is probably entering current and open cases into the online system first. Your petition has already been adjudicated and you have already been informed. Therefore, there is no urgency or reason to update the online status of your case any time soon.

Hopefully, this also serves to demonstrate to everyone that, as with everything from the INS, you cannot trust what you read.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Vibro.

I read a story a while ago that a poor guy found out his case was not yet entered in the INS system a year after receiving approval notice for the 485 interview and so he had to go through a lot of trouble to get it straightened out. I hope it does not happen to us.

When I applied for naturalization in October 2000, I tried checking the status of my application through the CSC phone system on a regular basis (this was before the online system was available). However, from the time I applied to the time I attended my oath ceremony in August 2001, my case could never be found!! I never worried about it though.
