On H1 for 3 1/2 Yrs-If transfered to F1 will I get fresh 6 yrs of H1 or not

Hi,
1) My first H1 petition was approved in Oct 2000 but I came to USA in May 2001. After that I transferred to another company on new h1 and since then I am with same company till now i.e Jan 5th 05. My employer said H1 period of 6 yrs starts when a person enters the country and not when his petition is approved. Plz clarify this.

2) Since I have used almost 3 1/2 yrs of H1 from the time of arrival to USA, is it possible that if I get transferred to F1 for few months and then get a new H1, will I get a new FRESH 6 Yrs of H1 or it will continue from where I left off i.e 3 1/2 yrs. Plz answr both questions.

H1 6 year clock starts at the time you enter the country, not at the time of visa approval.

You need to be out of US for at least 1 year in order to reset the clock for another 6 years. Changing to F1 or any other status will not do.
