Old-timer talks to an Immigration Officer

I’m the primary applicant, EB3 ND Dec 5,2002.My I-485 was approved on Feb 28 2005.My wife’s, however, has not been approved yet.
Yesterday, after INS posted the new processing dates on their web site, we called in. The customer service rep transferred me right away to an immigration officer. The officer was in a good joking Friday mood, which pissed me off a little bit but I kept my cool. I started complaining of the long wait, so he told me that It could take up to 5 years to process I-485 and at least the case hasn’t been denied. I was stunned from his reply and asked for his name and number.
Anyway, he told me that they couldn’t see much on their system because there is not much room left for any notes. He told me that there is no way to know if the name check has cleared, or if the case was assigned to an officer. His recommendations were to send a letter to the Director of NSC.I asked him to do an official inquiry, which he did.
I’m going to follow his advice and see what happens. I don’t know how competent the guy was; sounded like a new guy (he was polite. The old-timers a rude ).
I’ll keep you guys posted

By the way My wife got her 3rd EAD approved in 45days and I-131 In 30days form Nebraska(paper filed)

Similar situation with us (primary approved, dependent- minor child waiting, filed for 485 same day, same envelope, same ND/RD). I can understand very well how you must feel, especially for (a true rip off) reapllying for EAD/AP that may go on and on. I heard from one of the customer representatives (not an Immig. Officer) the same text: up to 5 years more to wait + sort of threatened me (a bit aggressive almost yelling male voice) that my kid might not be allowed to come back here with AP (???!!!) if we decide to travel abroad. He also told me that I should consider myself lucky I have got approved (like what's wrong with me to worry about my minor child's case). No welcome to USA, no congratulations, just full of contempt this guy was. Customer reps cannot see the namecheck status etc, but the contracted workers and IOs can, according to their Standard Operative Procedures. Are you sure that your customer rep really transferred to IO or to a contracted person (my customer rep refused to do so). My lawyer told me yesterday he contacted his "liaison" in Nebraska SC to see what is going on, but could not tell when the liaison will get back with any information. We could not ask for official enquiry since RD is later than January 1 2003. Did you at least go have your passport stamped and change SS card restriction? Best of luck to all of us.

I had my passport stamped on March 7th 2005.I haven't changed my SS card.I don't see any immediate need.
All I need is stop paying $175 for avery EAD or Advance parole. We have a vacation planed to Mexico and I don't want to go for a visa.
I really need my freedom(and my wifes too)

I'll keep you informed if I get any responce from Nebraska

Thanks - I will post any change here too.
