Old timer needs info

My case is taking too much time that I had ever imagined. Is it possible that RFE is issued and stil no last update date on the website and no change in the AVM ? I am under the impression that with the new feature of CIS website, every time the case is updated (even for internal processing) an email will be sent out, if a profile is created? Hope you guys share your experience.

Anything is possible with USCIS. I've often wondered if filing a Freedom of Information Act would help. This would force them to pull your file from the shelf, and make copies to send to you. This might make them notice that your RD is WAAAY old, and hopefully they will decide to adjudicate it instead of just putting back on the shelf, or they will notice that the file is misplaced or missing. Either situation eventually gets you progress on the case.
