OK to offer incentives to your attorney?

I'm wondering if it's legal, ethical and common to offer incentives to your attorney? e.g. "extra $2k in fees if I get a GC by day X"
 
Why would you want to pay him more? I think it is perfectly legal (as a gift), and highly uncommon.
