Did you apply for k-3? I heard k-3 takes only 2-3 months?
When did you hear such a thing? If it is recent I doubt it.
They used to be lot faster but with new method of filing and process and follow-up with the applicant IR1/CR1 is even faster.
Well, I have seen people to obtain visa from 3 months to 1 year x months. depeneds what method you are persuing. In my case I hope it will be little faster since I applied back in 2006 base on my GC.
True, as you said country matters. Some American consulates are not busy and you get interview within a month or less and some are so busy that you won't have any interview for months.
Funny thing is lack of organization doesn't end to USCIS, it still grows out of the US and even US consulates are haveing the same problems. So it is important to follow up all the time if you need you case to get to its destination.

I went to Frankfurt Consulate and spoke to them about my wife. They told me that once I become U.S Citizen, they can issue her a k-3 visa in 1-3 months depending on her clearance but since she was cleared before as h-1, it would be faster.
I hope it is true. mind if I ask that 1-3 months is before the process in the US or after? I can talk more about this later if you need it.

I think K3 visa is a non-immigrant visa and once you enter, you can apply for I-485 etc in the United States. So basically you wait inside the country for the process rather than outside.
I am not sure of the entire process but maybe someone else knows. I didn't know about K3 either but just found out few weeks ago.

Only thing IR1/CR1 suffers is more family seperation which I guess has been solved recently by faster processing from NVC.
I still think IR1 is better way, but anyone takes their own path.

Ok. Let me know how long it takes you to get IR1 spouse here. Hopefully its 6-9 months?

Then, put it this way IR1 prcess is in three steps: 1) Service Center 2) NVC (national visa center) and 3) embassy
I applied to CSC in 2006, since I am a USC now my I-130 is out of processing time and they should take care of it soon. Process in NVC used to take about 4-5 months but now with new precedure it takes some where from 1 - 1.5 month.
embassy in each country is different and the interview time is variable. From two weeks to 2 months. I know this guy on VisaJourney and he had the same situation and he is finished in 3 months.
Advantages: your spouse enteres with GC. Social security comes in two or three weeks (usually) and they have work authorization (comes with GC) and it is cheaper to do it this way.
K3 is almost equal timeing but with current situation lots of dis-advantages.
One more reason I won't apply K3 is I applied in Feb. 2006. Now some applicants have reported USCIS mis-understood their application as soon as K3 came in and they got probably a new date so their case is not our of the processing time anymore and doesn't get much of the attention for 4-5 months in the serivce center.
This subject is debatable for ever but I hope this way that I am taking right now will work just fine for me.
I will keep you all posted with experience here so you can make a better disicion on your case.

1. How did you upgrade the status in I-130? Did you just call them, or send a letter?
2. How did you follow up? Did you call them back to be confirmed that they really updated the status?

First rule: USCIS customer service is the most redicoules thing you can ever see in your entire life.
Second: I simply fax it to them, there is a fax number for upgrade with copy of NOA1, NC, a letter explaining the situation and I also mailed it (they have address as well)

I am so sorry for not responding to your question.
One day I went for an Infopass and the officer in San Diego gave me a form to fill when I am ready to upgrade my wife's petition. On top of the form it has address and fax number. I did both of them and result I got an answer in 28 days. I had an RFE otherwise it would be alot fast. I lost like 14 days so I could have had it in two weeks and then you get the NOA2.
From there, takes about a week for your case to get to NVC. NVC process with new shortcuts is alot easier. you get some online payment options which reduce the time in mailing. You can be done with NVC process in 30-50 days and then your case will be tranfer to embassy abroad. You are lucky if you get an interview within a month.
I am going to attach the upgrade form for you guys or you can get it from local office.

I am very upset ...i wish someone out there to direct me in this matter .
I became a citizen on sep 29 /2009 .I did call USCIS on the same day to upgrade my peding petition for my spouse which I filed when i was LPR . The who was on the phone said he will send a message to the service center . I did mail all the stuff for upgrading the petition on the same day ,but I got back.But I noticed that mycase ha been touched in the meantime (which was on the same day that they send the packet back ,they even highlighted the requests that I made ).so not sure if they upgrade it or not . when i got the letter back ,I did call again and the lady on the phone said ..she got an option where she could send my request to service center to upgrade it .she believes that its not been done .Ans she gave me a confirmation # ,which I did not get one when I called the first time . I did not get a letter in mail regarding upgradation ....I just have no more patients to wait ... its been 3 weeks that I got naturalised .
Guys ...please let me know your ideas ... really appreciate it ....
