OCI Visa Stamp and N-600 Processing

Hi,

We have received approval for our OCI application and we will need to get the OCI Visa stamped on our US Passports from the consulate.

We also plan to apply for my son's (minor) US Citizenship Certificate using form N-600 with the USCIS.

If we get the OCI Visa Stamp on our passports, will it create any issue when we apply for N-600 for my son (risk of losing the US citizenship)? I believe we will need to send a copy of my son's US passport with the N-600 application.

There shouldn't be any issues as US State Department recognizes that OCI is not dual citizenship and your US citizenship remains valid.

Thank you. Appreciate it.

Would it be better if we apply for the N-600 and then get the OCI stamping done on the passports.

When you get a passport, you are already a citizen. That cannot be altered. The N600 is to get a citizenship certificate. It is a supplemental proof and has no expiry whereas a passport has 5/10 year limit and you need to renew it. Since people who were born here, need a birth certificate to apply, people who derived, need N600. So it has no bearing on OCI. Also, from a different angle, the US state dept does recognize OCI.
