OCI form & US Passport Expiring in Oct 08 for minor child

Hi,

I need your valuable suggestion or your experience, I am applying myself and for my family OCIs this week, but my minor child US passport is expiring in Oct 08 and I am going to apply for renewing child's US passport and it might take 3 weeks to get new passport.

My question is when I apply for OCI this week, I need to give child's Current passport number and details in the OCI application form, but when we go to OCI stamping in US passport, child might have new passport.

Will Indian Embassy accept that or will they object? Have any one faced this problem?

The instruction says clearly that you will have to send the SAME passport that you used to apply OCI. The U visa will be placed in this passport and you will have to carry both the old and new whenever you travel. If I were you, I would apply the US passport first and use it to apply OCI to save the hassle of carrying 2 passports instead of 1. US passports are usually obtained in a week to 10 days (not 3 weeks) for normal processing.
