OCI Form Part B questions

Hello, I have some questions about the OCI application. I fall under the New York jurisdiction.

- It says on the Indian govt website in India that the supporting document copies are to be self-attested, while on the NY Consulate's web page, it says the copies have to be notarized. Where does one get copies notarized, and how much does it cost?

- Do I send my Indian passport along with the initial application, or copies of the Indian passport?

- To whom should the certified check or money order be made out to?

I would get it notarized if possible to be on the safe side. I got copies of my US passport notarized. Cost me $5 per copy (2 copies needed). You can find the nearest notary in your phone book yellow pages. I believe other places like banks can also notarize documents for you. They refused to notarize copies of my Indian passport saying they couldn't notarize a copy of a foreign-issued document and so I just self-attested them writing "This is a true and accurate copy of the original document" and signing them myself.

You send copies with the application. You can send the original Indian passport to get it canceled later when you send your original US passport for the OCI stamp (after your OCI is granted and documents are received by CGI NY).
