oci - cancelled indian passport question

My Indian passport is already canceled.
Do I still need to send my canceled Indian passport for OCI(washington dc consulate).

How (in person/by mail) did you get them cancelled?

Did you get some sort of receipt when you got them cancelled?

I got my Indian passport canceled along with my 10 year Indian visa.
The visa/cancelletion of Indian passport was obtained by personally visting Washington DC consulate .
There is no receipt as the passport clearly indicates it is canceled.


FYI.

I just received an acknowledgemnt from the Washington Dc consulate that I do not have to send my canceled Indian passport for OCI
( I think this might vary from consulate to consulate, so please check your consulate)
