OCI Application Qs SFO

My Mom has become United States Citizen Last year & she wanted to Apply for OCI Card.

I had Following Questions PL Help me out

1. Can I go inperson to Consulate General of India San Francisco Office & show someone my application & hand overthe oCI form in person.
2. I have not yet cancelled her Indian Passport, shld I send the original Passport along with OCI form or do I have to cancel it before applying for OCI card or I can apply for OCI card & later cancel it.
3. How much time does it take to cancel the indian Passport
3. Pre Paid USPS envelope, is it a must to send $ 16 prepaid USPS envelope. IS it not possible to come inperson to SFO office & pick it up ?
4. The required documents shld they be notarized or Self Attested is good enough.


I know you must have answered the same Q's number of time, But PLLLLLL do let me know as I am confused & due to my mistake I do not want my Mom's Application to be Delayed.

Hate to say this but if you read the first 2 sticky threads in this forum, you will get most answers that are correct.
Still here are some answers
1. I think OCI is an online process now. You have to fill part A online. So I doubt you can go in person. You may be able to go in person when OCI arrives to get it stampled in passport.
2. Indian passport can be cancelled when you send in US passport for OCI stamp. No need to send it separately.
3. Houston takes 2-3 weeks to get OCI stamp in US passport and cancel Indian passport. Not sure about SF
4. Prepaid USPS envelope in Houston was for them to mail receipt (Which they do not do anyway) Send 20$ (Check SF consulate site) for return postage and they send via fedex/ups. Nothing else needs to be sent.
5. Houston accepts self attested documents. Hopefully SF will too. Write "True copy of original" on each photocopy and sign below it.

1. No They do not accept OCI forms in person. http://www.cgisf.org
2. cancel at last stage while sending US passports
3. yes it ia must 16.25, but express mail may increase in May 2008, so check the latest express mail costs. i checked and they dont let you in person
4. the document says which should be notarized and which self attestation. In my case PIO was notarized, all rest self attested
