Thanks for all the people on this forum for the help throughout my N-400 process.

After oath, I am planning to apply US passport immediately by express processing/mail immediately as I have plans to travel.

Questions:
1. What are the places I need to inform about my new status ?
Obviously to my company HR, any other places like DMV/MVA etc ?

2. Can I apply for OIC/PIO immediately after oath or should I wait for my US passport to arrive ?

My N-400 timeline
-----------------
Applied: April 2005
FP: July 2005
Interview: Sept 2005
Oath : Nov 2005

Dress code for oath ?

Formal attire is required like a suit and a tie ? or the same attire like the interview applies ? During the interview, I have hardly seen any people wearing suits, not sure whether the oath ceremony requires formal wear.

I don't think suit and tie is required. My husband just wore a tie and that too only because he had to go to work after. I saw a LOT of people in their traditional garb ( Somalian ladies)...I think what they probably mean by proper attire is no shorts, torn jeans etc ...

I think you'll need your US passport to apply for the PIO card. It usually takes 2 weeks.

Thanks Krutika

Is it possible to easily convert PIO card to OIC, once that gets through ? Some say they will start taking applications from Nov15th.

Though they are not accepting the applications yet for OIC, they have application forms on the embassy websites. They seem to ask lot of questions like properties owned in India and US. They also seem to be asking to personally apply at consular offices for OIC. Anyone following the information on OIC ? How about the PIO process ? Is it similar to OIC application process ?

Its all done --- I am a US Citizen now.

Thanks for all the help, everyone on this forum.

It was a huge gathering at Tampa Convention centre with about 450 people becoming new citizens today. Due to this it was a big waiting with long lines at every point. Even for buying coffee in convention centre. Other than this, it was smooth and pleasant.

Basically the following:
- Asked to take a seat in the big hall. My suggestion for folks is to try for a seat in the front so that you dont wait long in the lines.
- Going over the oath letter yes/no questions once again. My suggestion is to fill and sign this at the time of oath instead of filling up when you got this letter.
- Registration process, basically they take the oath letter and staple it with your GC and give it back to you along with an American flag. They ask you to assemble back at 9:15 am. During this time you can pick up passport application, get photos, relax, have coffee etc. Once again take a seat in the front when you assemble back.
- Messages from representatives from Senators office.
- Ask people to stand up by calling the country of origin. (There were about 27 people from India taking oath today, biggest was from Cuba with 37 something)
- Oath of allegiance
- Pledge of allegiance
- National anthem
- Message from President Bush
- Some other related videos
- Issue naturalization certificates. They take back the oath letter and GC at this point.

The process is over at this point. There was a long long line again for passport. We decided not to wait further as our patience ran thin. Instead we came back home and applied at the clerk office near our home.

In case you dont know, you need to send original naturalization certificate along with your passport application and you are not allowed to take copies of your naturalization. It is clearly written "It is a punishable offence taking copies or alter the certificate". So until your passport and naturalization certificate come back safely into your hands, keep your fingers crossed.

GOD BLESS USA.

After you stnd up with the people from you country, do they ask you to take the Oath or they do it with the bigger group?

No, they dont give oath to each country. They basically call you by country name and you keep standing until all the countries are called. After every country is called, an oath is given for every one all at once.

Hey thx

Thx for the description of the process. I have a few questions for you. I have applied in Tampa as well, and had my fingerprints done already. Waiting for my Interview letter.

There was a long long line again for passport.
What do you mean?

How much does it cost to recieve the passport? Do you send it over the mail or though the clerk office? Or how does the process work?

After you get your passport, do you get your certificate back?

How long did it take you to get your new social security?

Can you post your timeline again ( if you have exact dates, can you write them as well)?

Thanks.
Can't wait to become a citizen!
And yes, God Bless USA.
