Oath letter received

Hello All,

Finally I received oath letter today..........I am ecstatic and would like to thank everyone on this forum, especially Rahul kumar for invaluable help and support. I will take the oath on December 1, 2004. :) :) :)

There is a question on the back of the letter "Have you been absent from the United States?" My interpretation is that I need to carry with me dates of my visits out side US between interview and oath date when I go for the oath ceremony, even if those are short duration trips, right? Also typically how long the oath ceremony lasts at Philadelphia USCIS office?

My timeline (Philadelphia DO)
Application date: October 31, 2002
Priority date: November 4, 2002
Fingerprinting date: Januaray 31, 2003
Interview date: August 26, 2003
FOIPA request: August 2, 2004
FOIPA cleared: August 3, 2004
Name check cleared: August 8, 2004
Refingerprinting date: Octover 12, 2004
Oath letter received: November 19, 2004
Oath date scheduled: December 1, 2004

It seems it took quite a while to get your name check done. Was there any particular reason for it or just INS inefficiency?
 
Thanks Harish. There was no particular reason for the delay.........it was purely inefficiency in my opinion. I was calling them for almost 6 months, but was not getting any answers. Then I found this forum and understood the problem.............I just followed the advice given on this forum. Thanks again.

I am waiting for my oath letter too, i have a question for you. I sent in my FOIPA and recived a letter saying that there is no record. Now how do i find out if my "name check was cleared" for INS purpose. Do they send you a letter?
I would really appreciate your input.

Thanks. FBI checks same databases for FOIPA and name check. It is good that you have got "no records" on FOIPA.........this will push them to clear your name check also. Have you formally made an inquiry about your name check status with FBI? If not, you need to do that (see Rahul Kumar's pdf file on this forum). The FBI will send you an email saying that your name check is cleared and the results are sent to USCIS. Once this is done, USCIS needs 2-3 weeks to update your file and that leaves an officer to complete your file, followed by scheduling for oath. In my case I had to go for refingerprinting because the FPs are valid for 15 months only. Good luck!

The last time I checked my status online was about 8 days ago........the message was same........."status of your case is not available".

Did you have to pay $50 for your re-fingerprinting in October?
Was the letter for re-fingerprinting sent by VSC or by the District office?

You don't have to pay anything for refingerprinting and the letter is sent by the local DO.

Did you notarize your FOIPA letter? If you did, what did you notarize? Did you notarize your signature on the FOIPA letter in presence of a notary public or did you notarize something else? Is there a specific form for FOIPA or do we need to create our own FOIPA letter? Is the FOIPA form available on the USCIS website for download? Did you fax or mail FOIPA? If you faxed, FBI did not get the original. IS that OK by the FBI? How long did the FBI take to respond to your request? Did they send the response by email, regualr mail or phone? Do we need to spell out all our names (first, middle, last) in FOIPA, or can we put initial of the middle name in the FOIPA, as written in the N-400 form? :confused: :confused: :confused: Thanks for answering all these questions. I did not notarize the form. On this forum there is a pdf file generated by Rahul Kumar.........there is a template available in that document....I used that. The letter was faxed to them on August 2, 2004. They never received the original letter. The FBI responded via a letter dated August 3, 2004, which I received around 6th or 7th August. The response was very fast because at that time not many requests were sent to FBI for FOIPA. But now they seem to be taking 2-4 weeks to respond (based on information shared on this forum). I provide them my full name (middle name was spelled out) in the letter. Good luck!
