Oath - Form N-445 - travel outside USA - help

I did my naturalization interview last November, after I applied my N-400 form. I got approved for US citizenship.

I'm going to my Oath next week, and now I need to fill form N-445 (Notice of Naturalization Oath Ceremony). It asks about the time period AFTER my N-400 interview. One of the questions is - "Have you traveled outside the United States?"

So - what if I was outside of the United States AFTER my interview? will it affect anything? if I say "YES", can this hurt my naturalization process in any way??

Would appreciate any help as this is urgent.

Thanks

Just state the facts. Traveling will not affect you -- they just want a track of any changes. You could get divorced and it wouldn't affect you. How long was your travel -- hopefully less than 6 months?

So, check the "Yes" box and take your travel dates with you. If you are extra anal, you can also take your passport for any proof.

Good luck.

Thanks for the insight... what if it was more than 6 months however?

That wouldn't be good. Basically all the N-400 rules and requirements remain in force until you take the oath, so under those circumstances you would find yourself going home still an alien.

Well, here is the situation: I had my interview in November.

Since then I went out of the country 3 times, each time from 1 month to 5 months. In total I was out of the country 8 months out of the last 9 months.

When I went to do my interview in October, I had been in the USA 3 years out of the last 5 years.

If I count 5 years back from my oath date, then I was in total 2 years and 8 months outside the country.

If I count 5 years back from my interview date, then it was only 2 years outside the country.

Will I have a problem?

You should be fine. Just list the dates of travel truthfully. Physical presence requirement is 30 month (2 yrs and 6 mos) with in the last 5 yrs. They can count it from any date, you should be OK.

Even if they choose to count it from the oath date? That would give me 2 years and 4 months of physical presence (5y minus 2yr 8mo outside the country) - sounds a little borderline...
