Hello Everyone,
I live in Fremont, CA and I have been told by lawyer that I may be going to an Oath ceremony in December sometime since my citizenship has finally been approved. I still haven't received any letters yet. I have to travel abroad on December 8th and I am hoping that I can get a letter before I leave. I don't want to miss my Oath ceremony at any cost but at the same time I can't simply sit and wait for it as it may not come for a while. I had such a terrible experience with Name Check and I don't want any problems anymore. It has been a long and hard fought battle for me to get my citizenship. I was wondering if anyone have received any Oath letters for December in San Jose area? Any information would be useful.

Thanks:rolleyes:

I am waiting to receive the OL. Some people interviewed around same time as me have already recvd.

I thought Fremont was under San Francisco office jurisdiction. Anyway, I believe there is a ceremony for San Jose on December 20. Letters have already been mailed (I believe). Chances are if you're going to be scheduled you'll be scheduled for a January ceremony. It's hard to say. Why don't you schedule an Infopass and go to your local office (wherever you did your interview) and try to find out this? We can guess things until there is no tomorrow, but that won't make it a right guess necessarily ;)

InfoPass

I have tried infopass before and went to the San Francisco office couple times but they never seem to have the updated information. I am dealing with the District Attorney's office as they always give me the right information. The DA has indicated to my lawyer that my citizenship has been approved but I guess I am getting a bit anxious as I have waited a long time.

Thanks for the support

That's broken bureaucracy at its best. I would think that if by December 8th you haven't heard anything you are not going to be scheduled for oath in December. For San Jose, I would say if you haven't heard anything by now you probably are not making it to December's ceremony. If I am interpreting things correctly San Francisco is going to have ceremonies on Dec 4th and Dec 18th. Letters are usually sent a month in advance, but perhaps your case might be different.

Name Check Issues

I had my citizenship interview on 4/20/2006. I passed my interview and everything was fine at that point I was not aware of the FBI Name Check. I kept calling and writing to USCIS about my case and they keep telling me that my case was being delayed because of name check. I was very frsutrated by this and I wanted answers so I started writing to Congressman and Senator. The congressman was very supportive and did help by writing letters to USCIS and FBI and he got a response from FBI saying that my name check was clear. But the Senator Barbara Boxer's office flat out refused to help me and said there is nothing they can do. I was very determined and kept trying and then I finally decided to get a lawyer and once I got a lawyer I started getting results. I got all the FOIA's from Homeland Security, US Customs and FBI which had nothing. My advise to folks out there is to never give up.

Thanks,

Your experience sounds very similar to mine except, i took my interview in 2005 and i did not hire a lawyer. I did the same things you did. Glad that things worked out for you. See my timelline. Congratulation!

Notice

I finally confirmed by calling USCIS that my Oath Notice has been sent out but interestingly it has been sent to an old address. Since, the officer USCIS customer support did not have access to the letter she was not able to tell me when the Oath is but she did say that its was sent on 23rd of November, 2007. Now, I have to go to SF and pick it up from there.

thx

As mentioned earlier there are ceremonies the 4th and the 18th in San Francisco, if you got the 4th you should be able to naturalize before your trip. You'll have to go to the San Francisco passport agency to get a passport in a rush. Good luck, please let us know how it goes.

Rush Passport

Lets suppose I go to the Oath ceremony on 4th of December. I have to travel early in the morning on December 8th. Do you think I would be able to get my passport on time. What you mind giving me the rush passport place's location and address.

Thanks for the Help!

One question , would you not have to then get a visa for the country you are flying to as you would have become a US Citiizen?
