O1 Visa Approval time

How long does it take for the approval of O1 visa petition (Vermont center)? Will it be difficult to obtain GC after O1 and how long will I have to wait to apply for GC after I get my O1?
Though my employer wants me to start working ASAP, is it better to get O1 or wait to apply for H1?
 
It depends in each case, I got my approved form vermont in 6 weeks and thats was in November 2001. I was so sacred it was going to take a while but no, it was so fast. Then when I filled for extention 3 years later i took 9 days. All from vermont.
