O-1 or EAD? I'm confused

I am waiting for my I-140/1-485 approval. My EAD expired in October2005. But I am on a valid O-1 and so did not renew it. I am now faced with the choice of either renewing my O-1 which expires in August2006 or getting a second EAD. Can I renew my EAD even though the first one expired a long time ago? The O-1 renewal process is lengthy and complicated compared to the EAD renewal. I would be grateful for any advice! Thanks in advance -- Maya

Yes you can, no problem, since you can start only after you get approved EAD card - apply at least 3.5 or better 4 months in advance before expiration of your current O-1.
