This morning my wife and I went to INS at 26 Federal Plaza for passport stamping following I-485 approval on 2/6/02. INS in NYC only does passport stamping on Fridays.

Documents to carry: I-485 approval notice, passport, and two immigration photos.

We took Subway #6 and arrived at Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall at 7:00am. Walk Up to the Center St exit and go north along Lafayette for 3 blocks, then turn left on Worth St (3-5 min walking). There were already 50 people waiting. This entrance is for appointment only. The door opened at 7:30am. We showed our approval notices to the guard, and entered the building after security check. The room 1-102 is on the other side of the elevator hall way. Get in line there at 7:50am and the line started moving at 8:00am. We were called at 8:30am. Give the IIO our photos, approval notices and passports. He took the I-94\'s but did not want our EADs (although we ofeered him). Then took our fingerprints and signatures. Then STAMPING. I guess my nine years in the US finally climaxed in this 5 min period.

Now it is time to replace the old SS card we got as students. We took elevator to the Social Security Agency on 31st floor. Got a ticket there and two forms for SSN application. The time was 8:45. SSA opened at 9:00am. We submitted forms and the officer there checked our stamps.

At 9:30am, we were out of the building and bathed in the free air.
