Folks,

My wife completed her US Citizenship Oath today at NYC (Federal Plaza). Here's her timeline:

VSC, NY DO
PD: 05-Apr-2006
FP: 05-May-2006
Interview: 24-Jul-2006
Oath: 28-Jul-2006

I have same PD and FP, and am still waiting for my interview letter.

Hi there!

I think you were hit with USCIS' new guideline to not schedule interviews until all background checks are completed. I do not know what is worse...not being scheduled for who knows how long, or - in my case - being interviewed and then hit with the 'name check pending' b/s.

Cheers!

Legal,

Agreed, the waiting is kind of getting irritating now. I have an InfoPass appointment for 7th August, so hopefully will know about the case a bit more then. Since Day 1, I couldn't find the case status through the on-line link (says, Case couldn't be found, blah blah).

My application process has been bizzare from the word 'go'! Firstly, it took them about a month to send me the receipt notice. No other Northern Virginia applicant in 2005 or 2006 had to wait that long for the receipt notice.

When I called 2.5 weeks after I had submitted my N-400, they were not able to pull up anything under my A#. When I told them that VSC had already cashed my check, they 'escalated' my call.

There I was asked for the receipt number on the check. I gave the guy my number and he goes "so you are a Chinese national?". Hmmmm...I went.."No, I am a German citizen". What had happened? The data entry moron at VSC had entered the wrong A#. Instead of containing the numbers 471, my A# all of a sudden contained 470...aka I became a Chinese.

He corrected that mistake online and I followed up with a FedEx-ed letter to Novak, the director of VSC.

Who knows, maybe that is where the name check fiasco started in my case. Three scenarios come to mind:

- After they screw up, they never submitted a name check related to me

- They initiated the name check using my name but with the wrong A# causing all kinds of confusion

- They did everything right, and my NC requests is on some USB stick up some FBI ANALyst's behind.

Pardon language, I am just really sick and tired of this breathtaking incompetence.

Anyway, I am sure they will get around to it at some point, so that I can take the oath before I get old and senile ;-).

Cheers!

LA99,

Ouch, hope things sort out for you soon! What I don't understand is that there are bunch of people from other Service Centers (and even within VSC) who are being interviewed and given oath. Lot of these people have applied after us. My question is - how is the name-check process for these people completed? Shouldn't there be a first-come-first-served process for the name-check, or is it just that our case has been stuck at some incompetent FBI agent's desk?

Oh well. Fingers crossed, I will find more detail on 7th Aug infopass.
