Hello,
My name is Shota. I have a question to people who applied for permanent residency
outside the US and have green card now.
I am Japanese and my wife is American. We live in Japan now, but we want to move to the US.
I also want to go to medical school in the US if we move there, and one of the schools that I am interested
requires me to provide my green card number.
However, my understanding is you will get immigrant visa when you apply for permanent residency outside the US
and your application is approved. Then when you actually enter the US you will be granted a green card/stamp.
So I would probably have to move before I apply if I want to apply as a permanent resident.
But since I have a job in Japan, it would be the best for us if we can move after we know I am accepted to medical school.
So I am wondering if your green card number and immigration visa number (or any numbers you receive before you move to the US)
is the same.
I am also wondering if it is OK to visit the US with immigration visa to get green card several months before I apply for medical school
and go back to Japan. And then if I am accepted, we will actually move.
Best wishes,
Shota
