NSC Announces that Asylee Adjustment Cut-Off will Remain at 11/16/99
12/20/2003

The NSC has issued the following announcement:

I485 ASYLEE ADJUSTMENT INFORMATION Nebraska Service Center December 20, 2003

Each year we have to work 10,000 asylee approvals....this year we had at one point announced we thought those 10,000 numbers would take us only to 2/99....early spring it was realized that in order to get 10,000 approvals we were going to have to move past that date and possibly to as far as 11/1/99.

We have completed 10,000 approvals for FY2003. The 10,000 numbers are available for FY2004.

Due to the nature of asylee adjustment (or any adjustment case for that matter) there are variables that are beyond our control, every attempt is made to work cases in date order, however if there were cases that weren't ready to go to an officer for review, cases that were waiting on FBI name checks to come back, or cases that needed to have fingerprints taken or processed then we have to go on to the next case in order to get 10,000 approvals in a given fiscal year.

Now that the FY2004 numbers have been released, the NSC will make every effort to work cases in date order. We will do our best to work any cases received prior to early 1999 before we work any that came in after that. At this point the cut-off date remains 11/16/99 unless HQs determines that it should be moved.

A revision of the "Forecast for asylum adjustment adjudications" will be made by the end of December and posted on the NSC web site.
