Hi Guys,

Little Britain here.

Im looking at my pay stub. I am applying for AOS. Are they any taxes I dont have to pay.

Thanks in advance.

The taxes that you should pay are federal and state taxes. I put 1 for category, which means that they take a lot of taxes. It depends on your situation. I figured that it would be better to get that money back next year than to find out that I owe money to the goverment. They should have given you a form to fill out for that, to select which category you're in and based on that they take away a % of your paycheck.

Plus don't forget about SS tax (12.4% up to $94,000, 1/2 paid by you, 1/2 paid by your employer) and medicare tax (1.45% on all income, paid by you).

As far as deductions go, payala's system works well if you want to have a refund. But you're also giving the government an interest free loan for a year. I personally would rather have the government give me an interest free loan and make my deductions as low as possible.

How did I ever forget about those!!! =)
Eddie is right, SS and medicare taxes too. I remember for this year I got that money back though, not sure if for both or only one of those taxes. If your're not a permanent resident, you don't have to pay that money. I was an F1 working and the company I was working for at the time still deducted those taxes, I had to send them a letter this year asking for that money back.

F1s get that back? Cool. H1/TN do not unfortunately.

Well if you are on payroll with a legite job, where you fill out a W4 then your taxes are taken out of your payroll. If you are working on your own and file I-94 you need to send in quarterly payments.

Medicare, SS, Federal & State taxes are taken directly out of your pay check. the amount of federal & state taxes witheld depends on how many deductions you claim. It is best to claim as little as possible, If you don't have enough taken out during the year you may Owe Uncle Sam money when you file your income taxes prior to April 15th, 2007 (the following Calendar year) However if you claim 1 and have dependants you will get a Huge chunk of money back from your taxes.

Some states do not charge a state tax such as Florida.
