Friends,
i am not sure how long the GC process in US will take and given the uncertainity in the job market, I would like to start another front. I was told to apply for Canadian PR.

I looked at the CIC site. Can someone be kind of enough to get me started (some pointers will help).

Should I go through a lawyer or file independently? What application form is required for me and my spouse both working in US on H1B and are comp professionals?

Is the PR process as long as the one here in US?

Any pointers will help.

Thanks for kickstart.
Sincerely

1. go to CIC site, download the forms read the instructions, check if you can score 75 points, reed what documents are needed, every thing you will find with Forms.
2. if you are qualified then fill up forms pay the Fees, get FBI clearence and file

It takes about 10-18 months to get PR from Bufflao, earler it was taking less time.
you can file independently if you have enough money you can pay to lawyer, they are just going to fill up in the forms what you can do it your self.

But Canada has no IT jobs at this time, future no body knows

The forms are fairly simple. I and almost everybdy I know have done it by themselves. If you have doubts you can always ask here. No need to waste money on Lawyer.

BTW, I agree with Ishwars last statement. Beware.

But there is a freedom to do any work in Canada.

In USA, before green card, you have no freedom to work in any field. there is pain of laid off, Bench period, Car installment, Rent etc. and you have to burn your savings to survive during bench period.

While Canada, you can work any thing. You can have some money, and no tension like USA.

'Sar salamat to pagadia bahot'(If your head is safe, you may get no. of turbines).

So, dont worry about IT jobs.

Hi VSshaw

What do you mean by BENCH PERIOD, I never geard of it. How long is that period for?

Bench Period means, sitting idle without Project.

Being a Immigrant IT Proffessional, I know this word better.

Normally, IT proffessionals comes to USA on H1B visa. At that time, if their employer company is not able to place them(at Client's place for Project), Employer company will not pay to IT proffessional OR very less pay. So, this period is known as BENCH Period. It is very common word in immigrant IT guys in USA.

Genuine employer gives regular salary in any time(On Project or without Project), but some companies do not pay during this period. One kind of exploitation, it is against labor law of USA. But IT proffessional want to survive in USA, So he/she bears this situation.
