Notice to Appear for Master Hearing

Hi, I had a few questions which I hope someone on this forum might be able to help with?

Background:

I live and work in the UK and have a Greencard which was applied for me by a family member (who is a US citizen) when I was young. While applying for US jobs from the UK, I have been travelling back and forth from the US and obtaining reentry permits where appropriate in order to not lose my card. However, last time I didn’t apply for a reentry permit (through carelessness) and when arriving back in the US, my greencard was taken and I was given a temporary card so that I could go back to to the UK and return to see an immigration judge. I returned to the UK and six months later, I have been given a Notice for a Master Hearing in the US. My intention is to voluntarily relinquish the greencard as I’ve obviously not kept up with the criteria to be a permanent resident and I do not want the 10 year ban.

My questions:
1- The date for the Master Hearing conflicts with my finals (exams) for a professional qualification. I wanted to change the date – is this generally possible?
2- Is it possible to have the Master Hearing over the phone? I have heard that it is a 5-10 minute conversation with the judge and would save me a lot of time and money if I didn’t have to travel to the US for this.
3- How soon after the Master Hearing will the court date be? If I need to appear for it, would it be possible to schedule the court date a couple of days after the Master Hearing to save me two trips to the US?

Any help is much appreciated - thank you.

Matey,

See my answers in bold. You probably can try at the master hearing to explain you're planning to just give up the green card. They will probably be open to organizing things such that you don't have to come back again just to give up the card.

Best.
