Non-US citizen/resident grandparents as legal guardians to the USC children

I am a US resident and my husband is a US citizen. We have two young USC children. My husband and I are currently preparing our will and would like to appoint my parents who reside in Russia as our children's legal guardians.

I will not be able to apply for my parents to become the US residents for the next three years. It is our preference that our children are raised in the US. Would my parents be able to come to the US to care for our children should anything happen to us? Would they be able to obtain a US residence permit without a US sponsor or would they have to maintain a certain type of visa? (They would have sufficient means to support themselves and the children.) If they require a visa, how long would they be able to remain in the US before each renewal? Where could I find more information about the subject? Oh yes, we are Alaska residents.

Thank you.
