Planning to start a Software Consultancy (I know this is not a better time to start it, but wanted to have one). What are the requirements and things to be done, can somebody share their experiences?

Good answer, that I know :) . Asking abt the administrative requirements (where to register, how much will it be....) and any personal experiences?
 
It is very easy. It costs you less than $500 (total cost) to register. Just search yellow pages (or find out by other means) for a CPA (certified Public Accountant) near your place. Make an appointment and meet him. He will explain all the things to you and if you pay the fee (consulting fee + Actual registration fee), he will do all the paperwork for you and you will have a company in 3 weeks.
 
You can contact

local entrprenuer clubs. Go to tie.org for a local chapter. You can request mentors who will help you with advice and help.

Have you already got the green card ? which state do you belong to ? Incorporation is very easy. It takes two days to incorporate.
The best vehicle is S-CORPORATION (Pass-thru entity). Your CPA will explain more.
Things you may want to consider before doing this....
1) Your hourly rate.
2) If you will have min 2 employees - Insurances will be very expensive if not.
