All H-1B workers. Please be careful when you sign "non-compete agreement" (or any other agreement) with your employer.

Check the clauses carefully. You'd better have it reviewed by an attorney. The agreement(s) could eliminate your chance to obtain any future employment.

While in some states these kinds of agreements are illegitimate, many states allow them to protect the employer's interests.

If you quit your job, your employer may send you a letter (copy to your currently employer) speculating your violation of the agreements. You may have done nothing. But the letter may cause your current employer to fire you because they don't want to be dragged into any legal battle.

I was almost victimized by signing a "non-compete agreement" with my previous employer. Although I was no fired but it definitely caused some damage to my reputation, and a lot stress, too.

So be careful fellow H-1B Workers and those want-to-be H-1Bs.
