Hi
i'd be greatful if anyone can advise me or share a similar experience .

I got to milwaukee via chicago poe on 20th september 2008 . Handed my package got fingerprints and signed and my i-554 on my passport was endorsed as temporary proof of gc. Was told that i'd get ssc and gc at me current address .

Its been a month and nothing . Decided to call uscis and they have no record or any data of me or my alien reg nr.
I was stunned . They said i should call cbp at chicago to find out what happened . Absolutely no record of me even though my passport was stamped and approved
please help without a the ssn basically cant do anything at all and its been 1 month.
Thanks for your thoughts in advance

Normally the welcome letter should arrive within two weeks. Strange that they have no records at Chicago CBP about you.

To get the SSN find out at www.ssa.gov where their next office is and apply there for it.

Thanks mate for the input . Well Chicago does have a record of the entry but the USCIS doesnt have any data of me yet. They said my data was sent to Mesquite Texas for processing when i arrived .The social security should come with welcome package so i dont know i should go individually and apply for one at the local office here ? i dont want to end up having two social security cards in the end ! what do u think?

It doesn't matter if you have 2 social security cards. You can have as many Social Security cards as you want. Its just a thin paper cut out that is shaped like a card that has your SS number on it.

People who has lost their card or has ruined their SS card can always get a new one from the SS office.

If you can't wait, just get your card from the SS office. As long as the SS number that you get on those cards are the same, it should be ok.
