As a permanent resident which are the countries to which the visa requirement is waived off? I believe Canada is one of them. What about the rest?

Many countries will require

you to obtain a Visa even if you become a US citizen. This is called "reciprocity ' where a country will levy a charge of x amount of dollars to obtain a Visa as its citizens are charged the same.

What is more important is if, as a PR of US, you need to obtain a Visa in advance, which means you will not be able to obtain a Visa at the airport or border crossing.
An example is Peru which requires Indian Nationals to obtain a Visa prior to travel to that country. Some countries will take 4 to 5 weeks if you are Indian, Pakistani or Bangladeshi nationals.

Hope this helps.

Switzerland and Canada don't require for PR's to have visa
Thailand will allow US PR's of certian nationalities (India included) to obtain a visa at the Airport

Generally a Visa requirement depends on the country of issue of passport. A US PR does not overide your country requirements in most cases. More importantly it does not remain true for all times. I think Mexico had temporarily changed rules requiring most non US citizens (including PRs) to obtain visas before entering their country. I think it applied to some countries with large moslem populations including India and Pakistan. The rule of thumb is if your passport is from third world countries, you may still need a visa even if you are a green card holder.

A new development that is taking place is certain rules applying for people born in middle east. So a canadian citizen born in middle east may be subject to different rules than a native born canadian. Frequent travellers across the northern and southern boarders may know more about this.

Thanx guys....but I did hear from my friend

that he was not required to apply for the transit visa while he was travelling thru Germany,France & Italy since he had the green card.So there is a whole list of countries who waive off the visa requirement.

I think Relax is saying that US PRs with passports from country's usually requiring applying for a transit visa prior to landing in EU are waived; and are able to obtain a transit visa on arrival. As JoeF pointed out, tranist visa is a different kettle of fish. You are just allowed to loiter inside the airport and do some duty free shopping and stretch out and that too for a few hours only.
