Hello all,

I have my interview in 2 days and I do not have a letter from Selective Services to say I was not required to register. I entered the US when I was 22 and was on an F1. Did not get GC till I was after 26. I was not aware of this letter until yesterday!

Does anyone have experiences going to the interview without the letter (people who were not required to register).

More importantly, does anyone have any experience where they failed the interview because they did not have the waiver letter even they they were not required to register for SS.

Please help. I am suffering a lot of anxietly over this letter. Wish I had known about it eariler!!

Thanks for any help

First of all...calm down...take a deep breath and relax :)

You can go to the interview, and if they need to see the SS letter they will ask you to mail them the letter. I do not think you will fail the interview because you do not have a status letter. Good luck!

Thanks Fitness! You are right. I need to stop freaking!
I am so worried that I can't even seem to remember the answers to the 100 civics questions now. And I graduated Summa Cum Laude!
When the end seems so close, any thought of screwing it up is scary.
I will post my experiences when I am done on Thursday.
Thanks again. :)

Take your I-20's, old Passports

Take your I-20's with you and show the officer that you arrived on F-1. Also take the old passports to show the visa entries from the Consulate/Embassy. If the officer still insists on the letter, tell him that you applied and have not received it so far. Tell him you can mail the same as soon as you get it. I think you should be OK.
Post your experinces when you are done.
Have fun.

A long as you were on a non-immigrant visa (F-1, H-1B, etc.) until the age of 26, you did NOT have to register with Selective Services. Under these circumstances, having a letter from Selective Services is just for the peace of mind.

As long as you can prove that you got your GC when you were older than 26 years and you were on lawful non-imigrant status during the age of 18-26, you shouldn't even need to get a letter from SSS. your DOB and PR date should be good enough to prove that you got your PR when you were older than 26 yrs.

The requirements in N-400 (Part 10 q33) specifically mentions this.

As others mentioned, as long as you have your I-20s, H-1s etc. you should be OK.

If I were you, I wouldn't even bother to get the letter from Selective Service.
