No Selective Service Letter - should I go for interview

Hi,

I entered the US when I was 24 years old on an F-1. I was still on F-1 status when I completed 26 years of age. I have not received my Selective Service letter yet and my interview is in a few days. Should I go for the interview without this document? Will the lack of this document be grounds for denial of my application? I called the USCIS customer service number and they recommended that I proceed with the interview and that this should not be grounds for denial. I was hoping to get input from some of you guys as well.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, by all means go. It will probably be a non-issue. If it becomes an issue you'll have the chance to send it after the interview. Don't miss your interview.

I received my letter in less than 2 weeks. I entered just 2 months before age 26 on H-1b and I just got my letter yesterday. If you are in the same timeframe, you should probably get it in the same timeline. By all means, go for the interview if it does not arrive as you acted in good faith and requested one.

If you were on a valid non-immigrant status (F1, H1, etc) until you turned 26, you will probably not even be asked to show a Selective Service letter. If you look through the numerous interview experiences posted here, you will see that that is the case for a majority of people (including myself). I never got a letter from Selective Services.

Also I don't know what you were planning to do when you mentioned not going to the interview. If you don't go and you don't specifically ask that your interview be rescheduled, your case will be considered abandoned. So I would say go ahead with the interview even if you are missing a document or two (and this one is not a required one by any means). The worst that will happen is that your IO will defer the decision on your case until you have produced the document.

Go ahead with your interview and Selective Ser issue does not applies to you in my opinion.

You should be fine, but take valid documents stating dates etc...

Do NOT miss your interview.

If asked, say that you will send the information later. And then wait for the letter to arrive and send it later to the IO.

Missing an Interview may delay your process by 1 year or more.

Nothing at all to worry about. The selective service is only for "legal immigrant" i.e. Green Card holders. As an F-1 student visa or H1B visa you are not an "IMMIGRANT". YOU CANNOT SERVE in the US military if you are on F-1 visa or H1B visa hence you are not be worry about the selective service.
