no receipt for spouse N-400 filed at the same time

I filed N-400 application early this month for my wife and me together
in the same envelop. So far I have received the receipt and finger print
notive and nothing for my wife.

Is this normal ? I might get a little paranoid but really can't have
any confidence on them.

thanks,
Jinning

Give it sometime, it will come. They are slow but its something they have been doing for years and millions of applications.

See my timeline below. You should relax and take it easy.

Your timeline is quite interesting. I assume you and your wife mailed your N-400 applications in the same envelope, correct?
I remember seeing some other posts where this was done and the two applications had receipt dates differing by a few weeks or even months.

My theory is that the USCIS workers who open the incoming envelopes (and are not particularly well trained or particularly competent), sometimes do not notice that there is more than one application inside and issue only one receipt notice. Eventually, of course, it does get discovered that there were two applications there and the second application gets a case number assigned and a receipt notice issued. This seems to have happened in your case, with close to a two months difference between the receipt notice dates for your wife and you.

So it is probably better to mail N-400 applications for spouses separately, rather than together, to avoid these types of delays.

Correct.

So how does one explain the delay in my wife getting her interview letter 3 months later than mine even though I get the receipt notices 2 months later than her.

In my opinion anything one may speculate about USCIS is just that, mere speculation. I wish we could all draw some definite conclusion from each others experience but unfortunately that does not seem to be the case.

Meanwhile happy speculation! :)

From your comments in the timeline, it looks like your wife's name check took longer. Is that not correct? That can explain why you got your IL before she did.

Absolutely. Her name check was completed on 01/08/2007 and two weeks later she gets her IV letter. I may have not phrased my response properly in my previous post.
