No Receipt for filing Adjustment of Status

My employer filed I-485 for both me and my wife on 4/13/2001. An H1 for extention of stay beyond 6 years is also filed on 1st week of April by my employer as 6 years on H1 was getting over in May, 2001. My wife who is also on H1 would be completing her 6 years during 2nd week of August.

I have the following questions, Since neither I nor my wife have received the Receipt for I-485

1. What will happen to my wife’s job, since her 6 year term expires in 2nd week of August. ( Can her employer file for extension of stay beyond 6 years based on filing of 485 by my employer for both of us.)
2. Does she become out of status ( Although 485 has been files on behalf of her, no reciepts yet. )
3. Please suggest me some steps that I can take to get the receipt / Interim EAD for my wife.

I think you should get your receipts pretty soon. For now you can take detail report of mail tracking( FEDEX / USPS) and keep it with you. Also check if your check is cashed. they usually type receipt number on that.

you should be getting your EAD in a month or two.

Hi All,

As indicatedbny gajesh, INS didn\'t seem to respond to anyone for anything. I have completed my FP on 04/14 and yet to receive any response from as of today.

INS is unreliable ..
