I am sponsoring my mother and sent I130, I485, I131 and affidavit with fees and photos on Apr 5 by certified Priority mail (unfortunately didnt realize signature confirm is seperate.)

So far (over 1 month) no receipt, checks have not been cashed. Have a confirmation that they received on saturday Apr 9th - but no info on who took it

Called the national center and they said it can take 60 days.

Any body that can help with these questions :
1) Is there a phone # to call the chicago office at least to check where my app is ?

2) Should I submit a new application again ? Should I put STOP payment to my older checks ? I dont have the medical report - should I send my copy i.e. not sealed for now and when I get it from the docs office send the original then ?

3) My moms visa will expire in anothe 1 month - should I apply for extension - would like to avoid it since its another set of paperwork and fees and was told earlier that as long as I get a notice from them everything is good.

thanks

By "affidavit" I presume you meant the I-864?

Did you also send the I-693 medical and G-325A? Missing forms like that can delay issuing your receipt or result in rejection.

Any overstay is protected by virtue of a filed I-485, which in your case is not considered filed until you get a reciept.
On the other hand IR of a USC's overstay is forgiven anyway, which in your case ypour mother is a IR of a USC.

I talked to a immigration officer and he said not to do anything and just wait. They have backlogs and my case will soon be processed. Though I am not sure why its taking a month and a half for me and most postings for I-130 is done within a week !

He also said that I dont need to waste money for extending visa as it will not be needed. Maybe like what namecheckvictim said above. So I being USC, my mom can overstay past the date stamped in I-94 ? I wish they process 485 asap.
