i wanted to know if you go to interview (citizenship) and don't have a passport.. i lost mine.. and i can't renew mine... would this be a problem?

do you have a photocopy of your passport?

the interview officer checked my passport to verify the date on it and the date i provided on n400 form. someone was not asked to show passport, and someone was. i guess it is all about if the interview office would want to look at your passport or not.

in the event if s/he wants to look at your passport and you do not have, i guess s/he would require you to send a cert. copy of the passport. anyhow, it all depends.

after all, you might ask to prove the date you put down on N400 are correct.

thanks for the reply....

see I never even PR stamped on the passport.. since i have asylum.. (i cant even go to the embassy to get new passport.)..i lost my passport..plus passport was expired.. and they gave me temp. card instead.. and later on i recieved the physical green card... and No i dont have a copy of the passport either.. what kinda protocol you have to follow if you don't have a passport.. i am sure is not that much of a big deal..I have never traveled outside the country anyways...

I thought that at the interview it was mandatory for the applicant to bring along their passport.

i do not think it is mandatory. just like OP, if he lost his passport, and if he could not apply a new one, what could he do?

or if i lost my passport, and i did not plan to travel out of US, i would not need to apply for a new one. however, i guess the interview officer would request me to show my passport; it would make me to apply a new one first.

I think you don't have to carry national passport ...as asylee you suppose to use refugee travel document or rentry permit for travel.. .
:) :) :)
