No notice of approved N-400

Hello,

I had my interview on June 25, which was very short and mainly consisted of the test, plus verification of select questions on N-400. However, because of an arrest record from 1989, approval could not be given at that time, but the officer said it shouldn't be any problem. On June 27 my online status was upgraded to "oath scheduling que". On July 31 I got Form N-445 with date for oath ceremony on August 15.

My main question is that I have not received any notice that my N-400 has been approved. Don't they always send such, so one will just assume it has been approved if one is called to the oath ceremony? Or, should I contact them and ask if my application has been approved?

Thanks for any input.

They don't send approval notices for N-400. You get the oath letter, then you get the naturalization certificate at the oath.

Approval is not 100% final until you complete the oath; you could be pulled out of the oath ceremony if there is new adverse information against you, such as getting arrested after the interview, or they discover that you lied in the interview. You could consider the oath letter to be a provisional approval notice, and the naturalization certificate is the finalized and official approval notice.

Extremely Urgent Case-- N400 citizenship interview got a big problem

My husband is facing a severe problem in his yesterday citizenship interview. And we want to solicit any professional advice here and do the evaluation for our case.

My husband received his green card in 2007 and he worked in the University of Northern Virginia at that time. His major was accounting, however he worked as assistant registrar. His lawyer used the accountant position for him to apply for H1 application. After H1 approval, the school sponsored him for green card application. The lawyer used instructor of accounting department as the position. The school also advertised the same position in the newspaper, but listed the assistant registrar as his title in school's website. Fortunately, everything turned out to be smooth and he got his green card.

After 4 years and nine months, my husband submitted his citizenship application and received the interview notification for March. However when we got the USCIS for interview, the officer told us that his file hadn't been arrived and sent us back to wait for further notification. Afterwards we kept calling the customer service and info pass. Finally we received a new notification for the initial interview which was on Aug,1st.

For the interview, the first five minutes went well, my husband passed the test. Then, the officer said she need to turn on the video and recorder to record the following conversation. She asked tons of questions about my husband green card application. Since we never expect her to ask those questions, we didn't prepare any. My husband just said all the information based on his green card application. After he finished, the officer pointed out that he was lying since he never did the job listed in his perm application and presented a bunch of materials, including his emails with students or faculty and even his payroll check. My husband hardly to defend himself and had to admit and tried to explain that he did help the accounting department as an assistant. But the officer kept forcing him to provide any evidence to prove it. Finally, the officer printed out the conversation and urged my husband to sign.Due to the shock and unexpectation, my husband signed.

After the interrogation, He received the form of N-652 which indicates the decision has yet been made. We are extremely worried now, not for the citizenship, but for our green card. As we know, the school he worked before has lots of law issues now and is closed in this month. We have no idea why we were questioned so detail. Is this random phenomena ? How should we do based on the current situation? Will it cause our green card be revoked? Anyone can help us?

Thank you Jackolantern for your reply, that makes sense.

The reason I thought they sent these out is that under "My Case Status" it says under the step "Decision" that "During this step the formal decision (approved/denied) is written and the decision notice is mailed and/or emailed to the applicant/petitioner."

But apparently that's not the case.

liweila,

If you want your case to get proper attention, it would be better to make it a new topic, instead of posting it under my topic, which is unrelated to yours.

EDIT: I see you have made it your own topic, so then if you remove your post above, I will remove this as well.
