What is "NO EOS,AOS,COS" means

Hello gurus and friends,

I really need your advice. The Immigration Officer at the Port of Entry wrote "NO EOS, AOS, COS" on my mother-in-law I-94. She stayed for 10 months on her last visit and applied for extension of stay and went home. After 18 months she came to USA and they were creating problems as she couldn't show her extension papers at port-of-entry and her extension was not in their system. At one moment they called us to our cell phone and asking about EAC number/copy of extension letter otherwise they said they will send her back to India. It was a big tension and so much stress.

What does this mean? he can't extend her stay after six months. What if she wants to extend? This cause so much worries because she has 10 years visa on her passport and wants to come every other year. Will this "stamping" affect in her future visit to this country? We are so worried.

If anyone has the same experience pls share, your advice is greatly appreciated.

One thing to note here is that officer wrote that on her I-94, which is going to stay here anyways as she will hand it over to airlines before she leaves. If the officer would have noted it down on passport then there should have been more concern.

My guess is it means " No "extension of status", "Adjustment of status", "change of status". If she wants to extend, no body is stopping you from applying, you have to send a copy of I-94 with the extension application, I believe looking at that copy USCIS might deny her extension.
