Hello Guy,

I applied my asylum back in March 2012. I have yet to receive any news from the Gov whether my decision has been accepted or rejected. I have received my EAD.

my questions.

1. Is this normal? It's been more than a year. I've read/heard many stories./.. and most of them received their news within months. Should I contact the office? I'm afraid they might have sent me a letter but the post office lost it for some reason. Should I be worried about this?
2. If I still don't hear anything from the government when my currect EAD expires. Will I be able to renew my EAD?

Thank you for your help.

Hello,

1.

Is this normal? After reading past threads from people's experiences from this forum, I am not surprised about the length of your wait time. The asylum decisions range from weeks to months, even several years, so I would probably not worry much. Are you in status? I have heard that applicants in status are given least priority in terms of wait time.

Should I contact the office? I think you might want to contact the office and it never hurts to ask. Yes, it is possible that sometimes post offices lose or misplace mails, but it is good to check from the USCIS to have a peace of mind.

I believe, you will be able to renew your EAD, but I have read that you should renew it 90 days before it expires. To get the most accurate response, i think you should contact the office that has issued you your EAD card.

Thank you for your reply Mercier.

I was on F1 Visa when I applied for my Asylum and when I had my interview. My F1 expired last March. March 2013.

The office did tell me that since I was still in status at the time, it's gonna take a while because, like you said, they prioritize people who are out of status. I just don't expect to take this long but I'm glad this is not out of the ordinary though. :)
