No date in I-94-Only Visa type- date is required by MVC for licence

Hi,

I came into US recently and at the airport the immigration officer, did not write a date in my I94 and instead wrote the visa type as L1. he mentioned that this means that the date of expiry of Visa will be considered as I94 date.

Till date no one questioned it and while applying for SSN also it was accepted. I wanted to apply for a driving licence and in MVC (NJ), they said a date is required in I94 and asked me to get to airport to get the date. Please advise on what needs to be done?

It is somewhat surprising to hear that there was no expiration date mentioned on the I-94. You are not here on F-1 either, for the I-94 to mention "duration of stay". You may have to get it rectified.

Visit the nearest CBP post and get it corrected.
