Hi,

I am preety new to this concept of NIW. I would be glad if anyone can throw some light on some doubts I have.

I know that if you choose the NIW way for GC sponsor the PERM is waived. So does that mean that first step you take when a NIW facility is ready to sponsor your GC is file an I-140 ?

Wht is the shortest time it takes to approve an I-140 so I can use the I-140 approval to extend my H1 beyond 6 yrs and later go ahead with I-485 ?

- Is the approval of I -140 mandatory to qualify for H1B 7th year extension?

Thank you for your time

yes NIW = PERM Waived. NIW is normally self sponsored. You can file any time when you are ready. It can take anywhere from three weeks to more than a year to get approval depending on each case merits. You may be able to extend H1-b either after I-140 is approved or after it has been pending for more than 365 days.
