Folks,
Just wanted to let you guys know that my NIW (Self Petition) got approved. I had initially applied in Oct 2003. I work as a scientist in pharmaceutical/diabetes area. I got a RFE in November 2004 and I replied back with 3 more letters. Finally got approved in Jan 2005.
I got a letter from a related Governmental agency which I think was one of the strengths of my case. I think I would have had an easier time if I had filed as company sponsored (as a part of RFE, they had specifically requested a letter from the companny's top managment regarding my future work at the company). They also requested a letter from one of the Governmental agencies. (they stated in the RFE that the case is not fully proven and these requested items might help prove the case).
I have 2 publications from the past. In addition, there are 2 publications in press and one presentation in a conference (during May 2005). These latest achievements + governmental agency letter helped me get through the RFE.
I also felt that the covering letter that I gave during the intial application (based on the do-it-yourself kit) was less helpful as it is long and the officials skip the facts which are burried in it. I think the way to do it will be to list each criteria such as "The aliens admission will improve the U.S. economy" and show how you fulfil the requirement (rather than writing a big letter addressing all these requirements WITHOUT listing them separately). Just my opinion.
