NIW and employment

A friend of mine was granted a NIW green card. his I-140 was approved in late 2004. his GC in last summer-august2005. How long does he need to work in the same field to aviod issues of employment permanency, when he applies for citizenship?

There is no magic time period. Since NIW is usually not employer sponsored, one can change employers very soon after the GC approval, but one should work in the same or similar field for a reasonable period of time - perhaps a year or more. Usually he/she can argue that the new field is similar or at least requires similar set of skills.
