I read a notice from a lawyer's website saying that when a person comes back from abroad with AP, he needs to send a copy of AP to INS to notify INS that he has already been back to the US. Then INS will continue with his I-485 case.

This is the first time for me to hear such news? Is that correct?
 
I don't know exactly, but according to my point.
If what you said is true, then
Since INS know your leaving, they should know your back.
If they do not know your leaving, how come they hold your processing.
 
I contacted my lawyer just now, she told me INS would do it when I come back. So there is no need for me to send the copy to INS.
